I'm accustomed to going in and simply rebuilding the material in formZ to my spec, as it still is assigned to the objects that were that color in Illustrator.įor context, this has been left this way since the early days of formZ. ![]() ![]() The Illustrator method always preserves the different object colors, but formZ v8 does not seem to always import them with HSV or RGB values that match. However in both cases, you do have to go back through an boolean difference the inset shapes in letters or patterns. Lately, I've found the DWG is cleaner in formZ v8. This will bring in vector art at a physical size of feet (meters) I also change the import scale on the formZ side to a factor of 12. I have found that sometime these interfere with the generation of objects. I save everything to a v8 file and make sure before I do that masks and clipping paths are released. However, when I try this I get an error message "some SAT elements were lost during import" and then there's nothing there.I still use CS4. I've also heard that a formz model can be exported with true parametric ACIS objects to other software (for example the way formz can open dwg ACIS solid or surface objects and be manipulated within formz) using SAT format. I just wonder if there is a possibility of going the other way. I was able to bring them in and edit face and object elements in formz. I have created simple models using revit walls and roof elements and imported them into formz with success. I don't expect it to report coordination and relationship conflict errors and change management like a B.I.M. And certainly I'd like to be able to place it precisely into the revit model so that it reports accurately in section, plan and elevation views. What I'd like to be able to do is open a formz model component (like the stair example I used) and be able to at least edit the surface style (material) or lineweight of the object in revit. I am a bit new at revit so any advice you may have as to how to do this would be appreciated. I will look into importing elements into generic family files. This doen't solve the problem of imported objects conversion to system families, but enables creation of libraries for repeditive usage of standard family content. Have you tried importing your FormZ into DWG and them importing the DWG into a generic family file. The fact that Revit understands and manages relationships between system elements/components is one of the basic differences that other software cannot create true functioning and analytical building elements/components that can be imported into and converted directly. FormZ does not create bi-directional 3D parametric elements/components nor uses a parametric change management method for coordiingating and managing the complex relationships between building elements/components. ![]() ![]() Then FormZ is not a true BIM software solution, but a general purpose solid and surface modeling software. True, creating some system family content is more challeging in Revit than in FormZ or Rhino, etc. That would be an ideal world, were every CAD or modeling software could freely exchange and translate its graphical 3D geometry and parametric data. System elements/components are interally parametric objects unique to the respective Revit tool and have no method of translating 3D objects from other file formats. Also, as in your example, when you import the roof, floor, wall, ceiling, stair or ramp 3D models, there is no way to convert them to be a Revit system element or component. Understand that when you import a 3D DWG model, you are importing an static 3D geometry, which is not editable in Revit.
